A U.K. Source for Tools Recommended by Eliot Coleman – Blackberry Lane – Growers Supplying Growers
Back in 2004, in our very small market gardening business, we were looking for a collinear hoe, as recommended and invented by Eliot Coleman, and eventually found Glaser GMBH in Switzerland. We then discovered that they make several of the tools that Eliot mentions in his books. Not just the Collinear Hoe, but the 'improved wheelhoes' he writes about, with a good range of attachments, including Stirrup Hoes and Goosefoot Hoes.
Along with the Collinear Hoe, Glasers also make other good quality hand tools, including Oscillating Hoes and other hoes, plus the 'Wireweeder' and a Row Marker (though this may now be going out of production).
Our initial enquiry led to the start of a small mail order business, which we then expanded into an 'OnLine ToolShop' on our website. It has been good to see this grow over the years, supplying growers all over the world.
We later extended our range to include Ladbrooke Soil Blockers and the EarthWay Seeder - both recommended by Eliot - and a British-made Broadfork in 2010.
Our specialist range continues to grow when we find tools that seem appropriate, especially if they may be hard to find - as the Collinear Hoe and the Soil Blockers were when we first looked for them!
