Coleshill Organics is looking for a motivated, experienced and flexible full-time grower to help our 7-acre walled garden develop to its full potential.
Set within the heart of the National Trust’s Buscot and Coleshill Estate villages, Coleshill Organics has been managed to Soil Association organic standards for well over 20 years, and includes three polytunnels, a propagation greenhouse, a packing shed and various outbuildings.
We currently grow a wide range of vegetables and top fruit to supply the Coleshill Organics weekly box scheme, as well as a weekly farmers’ market, a small on-site honesty shop and local restaurants and other wholesale outlets. Food production will always be central to the garden’s viability; however, we are now looking to diversify activities to include a programme of on-site events to encourage people into the garden to see where their food is produced. We already have a lively local schools programme and welcome over 1,000 school children each year to learn about organic horticulture, and we are looking to expand our offer.
We are seeking applications from hard-working, experienced growers who can take the lead on crop planning and vegetable production, and actively support our future plans for on-site diversification.
As well as extensive horticultural growing and crop planning experience, you will have excellent organisational skills and a keen attention to detail, combined with a range of appropriate practical knowledge and skills, including tractor driving and maintenance, general maintenance, etc.
You will have excellent communication skills and a track record of working well with others, including seasonal staff, students, volunteers and part timers, plus the ability to get the best from them.
Ideally, you will also have some experience of veg box schemes/management, hosting events and other farm diversification. However, this is a chance for an experienced grower to gain first-hand experience of how a small business operates and to get involved at every level.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a proven range of skills and experience, as well as the desire and drive to help us diversify and take Coleshill Organics to the next level. If you feel you are that someone we would love to hear from you. We are looking for the right person to join the team and can be flexible about the start date.
This is a full-time position averaging a 40-hour week, with some flexibility expected during the growing season. While we cannot offer accommodation, we would consider an on-site mobile home. Salary: circa £21,000 per annum, plus delicious fruit and veg.
